Upon this rock...

Just after Peter confessed Jesus as Christ, the son of the living God, Jesus announced "upon this rock I will build my church" (Matthew 16:18). When Jesus spoke those words nearly 2,000 years ago, he envisioned a community of believers committed to sharing his ministry of service and teaching in the world. The Wilshire Church of Christ seeks to be part of that community of believers.

Since 1965 Wilshire has been part of the Oklahoma City community serving our neighbors and sharing God's word here and around the world. At Wilshire you will find people from every background and season in life all working together to serve God and others.

Through our annual school supply program and Vacation Bible School each summer we seek to serve local children and families in our immediate community. Our Care-N-Share program each December gives us an opportunity to open our doors and share clothes and household needs with our neighbors.

We believe that true faith comes, "by hearing and hearing by the word of God" (Romans 10:17). In worship and Bible class we spend time studying scripture to learn God's will for our lives. In our worship, doctrine, and lives, we attempt to be faithful to God's word as revealed through Jesus and scripture.

Wilshire is a community of believers committed to each other. Members share each other's struggles and victories in life. At Wilshire, you never face life's challenges without the support and prayer of a loving community of believers.

As the church of Jesus Christ it is our calling to faithfully represent Jesus to the community and the world. We invite you to be part of what God is doing in and through the Wilshire church of Christ.

50 Years of bringing Christ to Our community

On September 15, 1965 the Wilshire church of Christ met for the first time and James O. Baird preached the first sermon from the new pulpit. It was the beginning of a remarkable ministry to the Oklahoma City community that continues to this day. 2015 marked the 50th Anniversary of a work that has its roots in the very first congregation of churches of Christ to meet in Oklahoma City. The year was 1919 and the first meeting took place in the courtroom of a county judge. The 20-25 members present that day increased in number and through the years planted churches across the Oklahoma City area. What started in a judge’s chamber expanded to 10th and Francis, Culbertson Heights, 36th and Prospect, and what is now the Wilshire Church of Christ. Through the years Wilshire has been blessed with faithful elders, hard-working deacons, dedicated Bible class teachers, powerful preaching, and committed members.
